BLOODY VIRUS
Well, we obviously didn't touch enough wood last month. It turns out that our problems in January were a biological infection, rather than a virus. However, now we have a virus!
Tina and Bertie ran shocking races for us and when we tested them, their bloods were terrible. So we tested the others and they were wrong too.
You would never guess it to look at them, or ride them out, but we have a stable of poorly animals. They are on the mend, but no more runners for a few weeks, I'm afraid.

So here's what Benny looks like. Sick, eh?

NEARLY THERE
Lots of touching wood, but it seems the virus is behind us (shares in drug companies must have risen significantly) and our horses are started to work well.
Won't be long before we get racing again.

GOOD NEWS

More success on the track, with Jolene winning again and Benny taking third in a hot novice hurdle at Wetherby. He jumped superbly and has moved from being 'can't jump' when we bought him, to 'will be even better over a fence'!

NOT SUCH GOOD NEWS

Bertie had his second run in a bumper and made no effort at all! So, it's a kick up the bum and hurdles for him now. He is a talented horse and we have to reawaken his enthusiasm on the track.

Even more annoying is that we have another bout of illness in the yard with some of the horses coughing up all sorts of nastiness. So our plethora of runners in the next 3 weeks will be somewhat reduced. But all should be good in a month's time.

DIFFICULT TIMES BEHIND US

Finally, it seems our luck is changing. We are still having the odd cough and splutter, but most of our horses are now fit and healthy. And they are running well too!

At the end of November Jolie Baie (Jolene) came second at Huntingdon and this was followed by Ceejaybee (Freddie) running fourth in her first steeplechase. Sawpit Samantha (Tina)had her first run for us at Plumpton and came third, and we finally got Jaja Jimmy (Jimmy) out again in a very hot bumper at Exeter. He ran third, losing second place in the last few strides. To put this achievement in context, have a read of 'A New Racehorse' above. You will see that getting Jimmy to be a competitive racehorse has been a major achievement.
Surely another winner can't be far away!

Some very cold, but very happy members of the Jimmy Syndicate.

DIFFICULT TIMES!
We have had a bit of a tough time of it recently. The horses have been going well at home, but a lot has been going wrong when we get them to the track.
Both Pluto and Jolene found themselves on ground that was faster than advertised. Pluto picked up an injury in his race and Jolene was frightened by a mistake she made when they went too fast for her on her first steeplechase. Tim then ran a cracker of a race in his first bumper and looked sure to be placed before he choked entering the straight. Gavin brought him home very gently and a breathing operation follows.
BERTIE DOES WELL
Bertie had his first go on a race course at Stratford on 7th October and ran a very creditable 3rd. It was particularly pleasing because he is a galloping horse and Stratford didn't really suit him. So we are optimistic about he he will do next time out.

AND THEN CAME THE SPOTS!
Bertie's efforts were even more creditable than we realised, because shortly after his race we discovered that he (and probably others before him) had got a nasty bacterial throat infection. All the horses have it now and so we are going to have a very quiet time for a few weeks whilst we treat them and do no more than gentle exercise. Here's what it looks like in Benny's throat..

NICE FIRST RUN FROM BENNY
Benny had his first run for us at Market Rasen today. It was his first time over hurdles and he ballooned the first three. As the race progressed, however, he got the hang of it and finished running on in fourth place. A very promising start!

CHARLIE WINS!
Well, we said we were excited about the new season - and we had reason to be.
Charlie (Romeo Foxtrot) showed real determination to win the bumper at Worcester today. Two runs and he has had a third and a first.
Hurdles here come!
Here is a pic of a few of the syndicate who managed to avoid being elbowed out of the way by Jo and Holly.

Syndicate Saturday
Jo held what we hope will be the first of an annual barbecue for syndicate members last weekend
The sun deserted us but everyone had a great time.

Lots of change for the new season
After a summer of too much firm going, we are gearing up for the new season. There have been a lot of changes in the yard over the summer, both in personnel and in the horses we have.
The biggest change in our personnel is that Kenny decided there was a big world out there and she wanted to go and see some of it. So she packed herself off to Australia, where a few weeks into a new job at a new stable, she had the most appalling accident and we nearly lost her. Fortunately she received excellent medical care and is now on the mend.(https://www.racing.com/news/2024-07-24/news-industry-racing-rallies-behind-dickinson)
After Kenny left, we were really lucky to get 'Blu' to take her place. You can read about the team as it is now under the 'Team' tab.
There have also been some significant changes in our string of horses. Mustang Calley has gone off to play polo, Democritus couldn't overcome his heart problem and is now elsewhere having gentle hacks around the countryside, and Pattern Cutter didn't really want to be a racehorse and is now someone's very well- built riding horse.
We are very excited about our new horses. You can read about them on the 'horses' tab.

Nice Run, Charlie
Despite running as green as grass, Charlie had a great first run at Bangor. He led for most of the way , before being overtaken by two horses with previous experience. A very promising start!

Two Out this Weekend
Well, Freddie didn't get in at Exeter and Charlie bruised his foot. But, eventually we have some runners.
Alan (It's Alan) is at Howick Point to Point on Sunday and Charlie (Romeo Foxtrot) has his first appearance on track at Bangor on Saturday. We expect both to run well, though we don't know how Charlie will react to a three hour drive.
Fingers crossed!

Runners at Last!
After what can only be described as a March to forget (illness, injury and rubbish ground), we finally have some runners.
Freddie (Ceejaybe) was supposed to run at Hereford today, but the ground is too soft. So we'll put him in at Exeter next week.
Exciting news is that Charlie (Romeo Foxtrot) has his first run for the Bravo Charlie Syndicate at Taunton on Thursday.
Then Pattern Cutter will run in a point at Edgecot and will be quickly followed by Syd (Harbour Bridge), in his return after illness and injury. Jolene (Jolie Baie) is also close to running. Alan (It's for Alan) has recovered from his troubles and will shortly be running in point to points.
Jimmy (Jaja Jimmy) has had a small niggle but is now back in work. Bertie (Bertie the Rebel) is also back in work after illness. Pluto (Sea Victory) needs a little time to finish growing, so he is being roughed off and getting ready for the paddock.
Which leaves our latest recruit, Tiny Tim. He's a lovely unraced 3 year old by Time Test. He will be running in the summer and we are setting up a club to support him. If you are interested, you know where we are!

Nearly There!
Unfortunately our bug turned out to be worse than we thought and most of our horses have been sidelined for a while. We ran Freddie and Syd at Fontwell but they couldn't cope with the awful ground.
The good news is that we are nearly 'the other side' and should have some fit runners out this month- hopefully on proper ground.

Jimmy Club Visit
The weather has been rubbish and the horses have been poorly but our spirits were definitely lifted by a visit from some of the Jimmy Club members. These folks really love horses and Jimmy (plus any other horse they met) got plenty of attention- and polos.

Busy Times Ahead

After a bit of a bug in the yard and some awful ground to cope with at the races, we are looking to get our horses out again.
Freddie (Ceejaybee) runs in a handicap at Huntingdon on 8th Feb and he will be closely followed by Syd (Harbour Bridge), Jimmy (Jaja Jimmy) and Pluto (Sea Victory). Our new pointer (Pattern Cutter) will also be out in the next couple of weeks.
Bertie (Bertie the Rebel) and Cali (Mustang Cali) will follow shortly after that.
15/01/2024
Two runners this week

Weather permitting, we have two runners on Wednesday.
Syd (Harbour Bridge) runs his first hurdle race at Newbury. Freddie (Ceejaybee) runs in a handicap at Southwell.
We hope for good runs and them coming back to us in full health.
09/01/2024
Cali at Ludlow

Cali had her first run last week. The going was soft and she hated it. To her credit, she kept going and finished her race but we now know she needs decent ground and will be much happier in the spring and summer.

Bye, Norman
Sadly, on Christmas Day, Norman had a really serious bout of cholic (which may have actually been lymphoma) and could not be saved.
Pictured is Norman having a cuddle at lunchtime on Christmas Day before the pain hit.
He was the sweetest boy. We will all miss him

Merry Christmas, Everyone
Merry Christmas to all our readers. If you were hoping to join the Jimmy Club, I am afraid that we are full.
We have few places left in the Charlie syndicate, but not many!
See you in 2024.
17/12/2023
Come Join the Jimmy Club!
Those of you who have been following 'Jimmy's Journey' will know that we have had great fun getting him to decide he wants to be a racehorse.
Well, we have finally got him there!
So now we are offering a very cheap way to be part of 'Jimmy's Journey' and be one of his owners.
You will find details on the 'Jimmy's Journey' tab.

Lurgy hits the yard!
We ran both Syd and Pluto last week - and both were pulled up. Neither ran his race and subsequent scans show they have infections. So, it's rest time for them and fingers crossed it doesn't spread through the yard.
08/12/2023
Syd out at Chepstow
After two very nice runs in bumpers, Syd has his first go over hurdles at Chepstow tomorrow.
Probably bottomless ground but we look forward to seeing how he goes.
08/12/2023
Jimmy at Boot Camp
Jimmy has been a bad boy and has had to go to boot camp to learn the error of his ways. (see 'Jimmy's Journey')
19/11/2023
Charlie Syndicate Get Together
The Charlie people had a day out at the yard on Saturday. He seemed pleased to meet everyone.
We still have a few places left in the syndicate if anyone would care to join us.

Three Great Runs
A very pleasing week for the stable!
Ceejaybe continued his progress with an excellent 3rd at Newbury, Syd confirmed he has real ability with a very creditable 5th in a hot bumper at Newbury, and Alan showed he has still got it when going down by just a neck in his points race at Badbury Rings.
05/11/2023
Freddie and Sydney running
Ceejaybe is at Warwick on Tuesday and Harbour Bridge goes at Newbury on Thursday.
Good luck to them both!
01/11/2023
Freddie (Ceejaybe)
Is entered for Warwick in his next maiden hurdle.
Here's hoping it doesn't get too soft.
Trying to get Syd out
25/10/23
We have had Syd lined up for a number of races over the last fortnight. The rain has either done for the meeting or made the going too heavy.
But we will get there.
Freddie and Jolene are ready to go too.
New boys in the yard!
17th October. Today we welcomed Jimmy to the yard. He follows our purchase of Norman last week. Full details of these two exciting youngsters on the 'Horses' page.
New Job for Claude
Claude (Almighty) has decided that he doesn't want to be a racehorse. So he is going to be an eventer! You will be able to follow his progress on Facebook.
Nice run by Freddie
Freddie (Ceejaybe) had another spin over hurdles at Chepstow on 14th October. He managed a very creditable 3rd place.
Charlie proving popular
Shares in Romeo Foxtrot are going well. If you are interested, have a look at 'Racing Syndicate' tab. But don't delay, we will soon be full.
Gerald placed again
Nice run from Gerald at Uttoxeter on 19th. A third place, following a win last time out.
Sickly Syd
Unfortunately Syd had a minor ailment on Monday and had to miss his run at Worcester. He'll be back out very soon, though.
Bye Bye Umm
Despite lots of vet attention, unfortunately we haven't managed to get Ummsuquaim sound again. So she's been retired and is going off to have babies. Thanks for the fun, Umm.
Blue Lights Day
Nice to get some really positive comments about our day on Racing UK TV (Tuesday10th)
Claude out on Tuesday
Claude Almighty runs in the 3-0 at Worcester on Tuesday 12th. Last time he showed us he was making progress. This time we hope for more progress.
Alas, lots of rain at Worcester turned the ground too soft for Claude's liking and he ran a disappointing 7th. At least we know to keep him on fastish ground in the future.
Welcoming visitors
Thanks to everyone who attended either Blue Lights Day or our own Open Day.
The sun shone and everyone had a great time!
Jo lined everyone up against the wall until they learned to behave- though the Staff escaped!

New Syndicate opportunity
We are delighted to announce the opportunity to join a new syndicate. We are offering lease shares in Romeo Foxtrot. 'Charlie' is a 2020 gelding by Dragon Dancer, out of a winning mare and is half-brother to several other winners.

See the 'racing syndicate' tab for more details.
Syd Syndicate closed
All the shares on Syd are gone now, but we are opening a new syndicate now.
See the 'racing syndicate' tab for more details.
Open Day dates extended.

Due to demand we have added another 20 spaces to our open day on 9th September (from 10 am). So, if you want to come, please contact Jo at jo@jodavisracing.com.

Be quick, places will soon fill!

30 August: Double at Worcester!
A tremendous night for the yard at Worcester on Tuesday
After a great August in which Syd (Harbour Bridge) made an excellent debut, Claude (Almighty) showed he still wants to do it, and Freddie (Ceejaybe) got himself a third at Kempton, we hit the bullseye- twice!

Gerald (Democritus) timed his finish to perfection to win his handicap hurdle at 18-1 and Jolene (Jolie Baie) romped home by 19 lengths in her novice hurdle.

Both were given great rides by Gavin Sheehan.

So we move into September on a real high. We will be back to Worcester on 18th with Syd. We still have a few shares left if you want to be part of the fun!
